After two years of cooperating online, 2022 finally provided the opportunity to gather the NORCICS community for workshops and meetings in person. With fewer restrictions the center has seen more mobility and exchange with both national and international partners, and NORCICS researchers have been able to participate physically in conferences and other events, in Norway and abroad.
2022 has also proven to be a challenging year in many ways. For NORCICS though, the international developments might be said to have created an increased interest in our field of work. The conflict in Ukraine has shown that state supported cyber attacks are both relevant and real, and that the effects of them can be just as catastrophic as attacks of conventional warfare. This has resulted in increased interest from both government and the society at large for cybersecurity, and in some instances a decreased trust in critical infrastructure.
NORCICS have not yet seen a direct impact of the situation in Europe, but the collected effect of increased situational and risk awareness can be seen as an opportunity for NORCICS to create more visibility for its role and results, and thus expand its activities.
We would like to thank all our partners, researchers, and other collaborators for the cooperation in 2022, and we are looking forward to keeping working on exciting projects in 2023 and beyond.
Best wishes for the holidays and the new year!
