Introducing NORA.ai Special Interest Groups (SGI) |
NORA Special Interest Groups will cater to different branches and niches within the AI ecosystem, facilitating collaborations and information flows between the people operating within more specified fields related to the research and application of Artificial Intelligence. NORA will create several SIG's the coming months. First up is NeuroAI Norway. |
Establishment of NeuroAI on the 24th of January at Simula |
NeuroAI is an emerging field at the intersection of brain sciences and artificial intelligence and is expected to become a large research field in the years to come. The main promise of NeuroAI is that by understanding how the brain and biological neural networks compute, it will be possible to identify the key components of human intelligence to drive the development of a more energy-efficient and flexible artificial intelligence (AI) that will match, or perhaps even surpass, human intelligence. NeuroAI is a truly multidisciplinary effort, spanning across several disciplines such as computer science, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, law, and ethics.
Norway has unique world-class expertise in brain sciences and a fast-growing, well-organized AI community at the highest international level. Based on this notion, NORA.ai have established a special interest group in order to facilitate collaborations and information flows between the people operating within more specified fields related to the research and application of Artificial Intelligence, such as this. |
Watch the live recordings fra CuttingEdgeAI: Large Language Models and read more about the event |
On the 21st of February, NORA.ai hosted the first CuttingEdgeAI-seminar, which marked the launch of a new series of events for NORA.ai. The goal of the CuttingEdgeAI seminar series is to democratize AI by providing an accessible platform for researchers, students, practitioners and the general public alike, to gain knowledge, exchange ideas and collaborate on AI-related projects. At this inaugural Cutting Edge AI Seminar, which focused on Large Language Models, the Norwegian AI Community managed to move one step closer to that goal, with over 300 participants following the seminar online and over 100 physical attendees in Domus Bibliotheca.

Iris.AI receives funding from EIC Accelerator |
The European Innovation Council (EIC) has decided to grant Iris.ai 145 million NOK for the outstanding work on their AI engine for scientific text understanding, The Researcher Workspace. Horizon Europe is the world's largest research funding initiative and through their accelerator program, The European Innovation Council Accelerator, Iris.ai were among 78 companies who succeeded with their applications for funding this year, outcompeting over a thousand other qualified candidates. Only 15% of the selected 78 startups had a female CEO. This grant is awarded to innovations that have a particular potential for growth and that have an international appeal, and having a positive impact on society and the environment is also weighted as part of the decision. Iris.ai is a pioneering company, both when it comes to innovation and exceptional technology development, but also when it comes to going the distance to obtain EIC funding, which should both inspire and challenge other Norwegian startups.
We had a quick chat with Anita Schjøll Abildgaard about the application process and the future of Iris.ai.
